If you cannot find it in your body, you will not find it elsewhere. ~ Upanishads
You will lie, fully clothed, on a soft treatment table. Wearing comfortable clothing facilitates relaxation. In a typical treatment session, the therapist will make contact using very light touch and listens with her hands to patterns the body is holding.
Through this receptive listening, her hands act as a mirror reflecting back to the body what it’s doing. The sensations generated by this contact are commonly experienced as an increase in internal and external space, a heightened sense of body tissue movements and a shift to stillness and rest. This is normal and to be welcomed as your body begins to return to health and balance.
Your body will set the pace at which the work progresses while the therapist holds the container of safety. You are free to discontinue the session at any time. Response to craniosacral work varies from individual to individual and condition to condition. Your response is uniquely your own and can’t be compared to anyone else’s. A few sessions may be required to gain awareness of what you are sensing and feeling. For this reason, you may want to consider a series of sessions to gain the full benefit of the work and its cumulative effect.
You may find that the issue you bring to the session is not what changes first. The intention of this work is to help the person achieve movement toward a greater expression of health. Recipients often find themselves in a rarely encountered state of deep relaxation.
Plan for some quiet time following a session to further support what has transpired.
